A priority at Hope Street Youth and Family Services is that young people using our services are given opportunities for both skills and personal development. Tending a vegetable garden bed with others is an example of this, being a fun activity that promotes healthy living and builds self-esteem, social connections and problem-solving skills.
Spring 2022 has seen a focus on renewing some veggie patches across a few of Hope Street’s sites. Young people and staff have come together to do some weeding, turning soil and planting new crops. We are grateful for the wonderful community support with a special thanks to Bunnings for donating seedlings, soil, mulch and new gloves.
Hope Street Youth and Family Services love being part of the Melton community. We not only offer job opportunities to the community, we also engage and offer job ready skills to young people who then gain employment with local businesses.
This week for Homelessness Week 2022, LEGO homes were placed on Parliament House steps in Melbourne to campaign for the needs of Victorian young people who don't have a stable home.
Hope Street has been declared a participating institution under the National Redress Scheme.
The National Redress Scheme commenced on 1 July 2018 in response to recommendations by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. The Scheme:

FEATURED PILOT PROGRAM: Hope to Home in Whittlesea
Many young people face obstacles when trying to secure stable accommodation due to no rental history, lack of affordable housing, and no employment to sustain rental leases. The Hope to Home in Whittlesea pilot program will address these issues by:
- Facilitating the transition of up to 30 young people (and their children) from the Hope Street in Whittlesea program or Whittlesea Housing into 1 and 2 bedroom units
- Providing case management once they secure private rental of these units
- Helping these young people maintain their tenancy, employment, education and training, and community connections
- Engaging the support of community stakeholders including local businesses to address barriers contributing to youth homelessness
