Hope Street is proud to announce that due to the generosity of contributions from government, corporate, community and philanthropic organisations, a new Melton youth refuge is on its way. The Hope Street First Response Youth Service in Melton will provide immediate accommodation for young people, and will offer follow up support with counselling, health and wellbeing programs, and development opportunities. We thank all of our Major Donors and every individual, group and organisation who has donated to this campaign.
Without this vital initiative, young people experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness, including young parents with accompanying children, currently must move out of the Melton area if they require supported crisis accommodation. This often means they are forced to leave school or training as well as their current family and social connections. Their support networks are undermined leading to a feeling of disconnection with their community and lack of resilience.
